This was a very special session. Why you ask?  Well lets start at the very beginning! (I just sang this in my head in the same way Julie Andrews does in the Sound of Music)

Mama contacted me last year and wanted to shoot a family session to commemorate the loss of her little one in utero.  Little Zoya was a twin but very sadly she was the only one who made it Earthside.  Every year around her birthday, they do a butterfly release in honor of little Maizie.  For some reason or another, we could never coordinate our busy schedules together and never ended up doing the session.  Fast forward to a year later and Niko contacted me again with the amazing news that she’s pregnant and would like a maternity session.  Well 2020 had other plans.  In the spirit of this crazy year, she went into early labor and was put on bed rest.  Then my schedule filled up and left me with no availability for the rest of the year! Being that mom knew this would be her last pregnancy and Zoya is at an age that she really wanted captured, we figured this whole thing out together.  This disastrous year has also taught us that “Where there’s a will, there’s a way!”  And guess what – we found a way.

The stars aligned and I had a last minute cancellation and this date happened to be open for her too!  We shortened her full session to a mini and met at a place in the park with an open field close to a parking lot.  Since mom was able to be on her feet for small lengths at a time, we did all of her shots first.  I  may have annoying asked her about a million times if she was feeling ok and reminded her that we could also stop at anytime. We did just a few with her standing up and the rest with her sitting down.  She brought a very special teddy bear with Maizie’s footprints on it to incorporate into the session.  I absolutely love when my families bring sentimental items to their sessions.  They make it that much more unique to their special story.

Then she went back into the car to rest while dad, Zoya and I had some fun!  I can totally see what mom meant about Zoya being at an age that needed to be photographed.  Her big personality shines through these images.  She gave me so many smiles, laughs, and expressions!

Niko – I am so very glad that we were able to find a way to capture this very precious time for you and your family.  I cannot wait for the day to hear that baby boy has made his arrival!

Enjoy!
